Arrhenius Equation

An increase in temperature causes an increase in the rate of reaction. The rate is about doubled, for many reactions, by a 10 degree rise in temperature.

In order for a chemical reaction to occur, the reacting molecules must collide with each other. Only fast moving molecules i.e. the molecules having high energy are able to react. There must be some minimum energy possessed by the reacting molecules during the collision. This is called the threshold energy. All molecules having energy higher than the threshold energy are therefore, capable of reacting.

Where A is a proportionality constant and is also known as frequency factor, R is the gas constant.
