Reaction of Carbonyl Compounds With Ammonia & Derivatives

Aldehydes and ketones react with ammonia and primary amines to give imines which are compounds having carbon-nitrogen double bond.

During the above reaction a molecule of water is lost from the primary amine and the carbonyl compound.
