Seas
With respect to their communication with the ocean, the Seas are classified into:
- Marginal (Fringing) Seas
- Continental or Mediterranean Sea
The Marginal Seas are characterized by a more or less free links with the oceans. Among examples of this type of bodies are the Bating Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Japan Sea, the East China Sea, the South China Sea, the Caribbean Sea and other seas.
The Continental Seas communicate with the ocean only through narrow and comparatively shallow straits.
