Framing Questions

Questions beginning with "Wh" words are called Wh questions.

There are nine ‘Wh’ question words:

1. When
2. What 
3. Where
4. Why 
5. Whom 
6. Whose
7. Which 
8. How 
9. Who

Examples

1. What does she like to drink?
2. When did he go for shopping?
3. Why do you disturb me?
4. Where will you meet Anita?
5. How did you spend your holidays?
6. Whom do they want to select?

Yes-No Questions

Besides ‘wh’ questions you can also form questions beginning with ‘Do’, ‘Is’, ‘Can’. Such questions can be answered only in ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Hence they are called yes/no questions.

These questions are called Indefinite questions and begin with a Helping Verb.

• Are children sleeping comfortably?
• Were they in the playground?
