The area of parallelogram is equal to base multiplied by its corresponding height.
Area of ABCD = Area of ΔADC + Area of ΔACB
= (1/2 × DC × h) + (1/2 × AB × h)
= 1/2 × h × (DC + AB)
As opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal, AB = DC.
Area of ABCD = 1/2 × h × (DC + DC)
= 1/2 × h × (2 × DC)
= h × DC
Area of parallelogram = Base × Corresponding height
Example 1: A parallelogram with base 5 cm and the corresponding height is 6 cm. Find the area.
Area of a parallelogram = Base × Corresponding height
= 5 × 6 = 30 cm2
Example 2: Area of a parallelogram is 216 cm2 and one side is 32 cm. Find the corresponding height.
Area = Base × height
216 = 32 × height
height = 6.75 cm
