Graphical Representation of Data: Bar Graphs

Graphical representation is more convenient for the purpose of comparison among the individual items. Bar chart (graph) is one of the graphical representation of numerical data.

Bars (rectangles) of uniform width are drawn with equal spaces in between them, on the horizontal axis-called x-axis. The heights of the rectangles are shown along the vertical axis-called y-axis and are proportional to their respective frequencies.

The width of the rectangle has no special meaning except to make it pictorially more attractive.

You can conclude that:

  • The number of students in the class having blood group A is the maximum.
  • The number of students in the class having blood group AB is the minimum.

Bar graphs are used by economists, businessmen, medical journals, government departments for representing data.
